Westview Wesleyan exists to lovingly connect people to Jesus Christ
through worship, discipleship, relationships and service.
- Prayer
Prayer is communication between God and His people. Prayer is necessary for the personal life of a believer and the corporate life of a local church.
How that guides us: All worship services will include prayer. All members and staff in our church are expected to be in communication with God. All decisions which affect our church community must include prayer before and after the decision is made. Each week, our guiding staff will bring supplication to God on behalf of our church and be open to hearing Him speak.
- The Bible
The Bible is the highest source of written authority for God’s plan for His people; it reveals how to live out that plan, individually and corporately.
How that guides us: Beliefs, practices and priorities are to be anchored in clear biblical teachings.
- Relationships
Relationships – We are called to be in relationship with God and each other. Jesus called His disciples to invite people into relationship with Him and His church. We believe creating relationships is a primary step in transforming the community around us.
How that guides us: Throughout the year we will intentionally invite non-churched people to connect with our church community and with Jesus, as well as scheduling times for church members to connect with each other. We will strive to create and maintain healthy relationships by being involved in community events, planning and activities. We will also strive to create and maintain healthy relationships by being involved with other local church communities.
- Relevant
Relevant –Relevance is building a bridge to the culture around us without compromising our Core Values. This is modeled by God the Son in that He put on flesh and lived among us to build a relationship without compromising His integrity.
How that guides us: Our systems will never stay the same because they will need to change with a changing culture. We will strive to be aware of the culture around us and intentionally build bridges that will result in relationship with God and our church community.
- Tradition
Tradition –We honor the spiritual disciplines and worship practices that have guided the Christian tradition for centuries. At the same time we are open to the new. As part of The Wesleyan Church we adhere to the consensus of its doctrine and govern ourselves according to The Discipline of The Wesleyan Church.
How that guides us: This is reflected in our worship settings.
- Inviting
Inviting–The Church of Jesus Christ is a hospital for sinners. We believe the Church should be extremely inviting to the lost, broken, poor and all who do have not received salvation through Jesus Christ. Jesus came not for the healthy, but for the sick.
How that guides us: We will intentionally invite those in the community around us to be part of our community. We will expect visitors to come to our local church. We will make decisions based on the expectancy of visitors who may be different than those already a part of our church community.
- Accountable
Accountable – We must live above reproach and have protection in place against the enemy or any other destructive measure. In addition, our church leaders are held accountable as outlined in the Wesleyan Discipline.
How that guides us: Our local church will make community affective decisions based on communal prayer through our elected LBA as outlined in the Wesleyan Discipline. The pastoral staff and LBA members will be open to receive questioning from the LBA or a pastoral staff member.
- Others Focused
Others Focused – We commit to put others first in the way we use our time, financial resources and material possessions.
How that guides us: When making decisions for our church family, we will make an effort to choose reaching out to others before pleasing ourselves.
